Cacao Power
Cacao is an ancient heirloom of health. Believed to be a gift from the gods by some, the word we use today “cacao” originates from a word from the mysterious and ancient Olmec civilization in South America. In its original form it resembled something like “kakawa”, though its great value and power has been acknowledged by every culture that has come into contact with it from the Olmec, to the Mayan and Aztec empires, to the Spanish, and all the way to our modern world.
Naturally, we had to make it the foundational matrix and base for WZRD Pow once its healing powers became clear. Through extensive research and personal experimentation WZRD Pow evolved into its multi-dimensional state we bring to you today. In the past few years my own personal health journey set me on a quest to develop something I could take on a close to daily basis in order to help my body thrive in such a highly biologically challenging time for all beings on Earth.
In Mayan mythology the goddess IxCacao was a symbol of fertility and represented a motherly spirit of nourishment for her people (a culture that was so female conscious it was matriarchal). Though the drinking of cacao was a luxury only the wealthy could expense, the awareness of its value even gained it status as a form of currency in the Aztec culture.
“In Aztec ritual,” reads an article by The Telegraph, “cacao was a metaphor for the heart torn out in sacrifice – the seeds inside the pod were thought to be like blood spilling out of the human body. Chocolate drinks were sometimes dyed blood-red with annatto to underline the point.” The ancients saw cacao as a healer and of great support for the heart.
Through the scouring of more recent scientific studies in respected journals and peer reviewed scientific articles I began to connect the ancient reverence of this unique fruit with its many healing qualities and health boosting properties.
In an article in The International Journal for Molecular Sciences exploring the healing properties of a special group of molecules found in cacao called polyphenols the authors discuss some of the chemical mechanisms behind this magical gift from the Earth,
'“Potential mechanisms by which polyphenols from cocoa may affect vascular health.
- Inhibition of LDL oxidation
- Inhibition of lipoxygenase activity
- Inhibition of inflammatory gene expression (e.g., IL1β, IL2, IL4, IL6, TNFα, iNOS) due to inhibition of NFκB and AP1 transcription factor activity
- Inhibition of the expression of genes encoding for cell adhesion proteins, chemotactic factors and metalloproteinases
- Increase in endothelial nitric oxide synthase activity
- Inhibition of arginase activity
- Inhibition of platelet aggregation
- Increase in HDL and decrease in LDL and triglyceride levels
While this are just some of the effects described in the modern scientific literature, there are countles other studies and publications touting the benefits of this great fruit from the jungle heart of this beautiful Earth. An heirloom of the human family dating back to the Olmecs of South America, this gift is still rippling its healing energies through us now in our modern day and will continue to for generations to come.
Cacao’s POWer can be felt and tasted in every dash of WZRD Pow you sprinkle into your life.
